New Year, New Community Partnerships!
Have you made your New Year's resolutions yet? As a member of City CarShare, you're already making the
Bay Area a better place to live in 2010. Thanks to our loyal members, friends and supporters, we're
proving that green car sharing - and our other socially responsible approaches to achieving our mission -
are making a difference. (In case you missed our 2009 highlights and achievements, check out last
month's newsletter). With your continued support, we can make this year our best yet! We're pleased
to start this year with new partnerships that support low-income families and expand our service to grow
more healthy mobility options.
Working Families Credit Program—New CommunityShare Partner
We believe that everyone in the Bay Area should have ample transportation options without having to own a
car. Through our CommunityShare program, we are partnering with the San Francisco Working Families Credit
Program to make car sharing accessible to people of all incomes. The Working Families Credit Program
provides money, benefits and resources to over 11,000 low-income working families. Qualified families get
earned tax credits, food assistance, free and low cost health insurance coverage, financial training
classes and more.
Through our partnership, Working Families Credit Program recipients are now qualified for City CarShare's
CommunityShare program. This program offers discounted membership and driving rates to qualified
low-income residents. By eliminating the need to own a car, these families are able to keep and invest
more of what they earn to build a stronger future for their family.
This year we look forward to expanding our CommunityShare
program—bringing affordable car sharing to even more of your Bay Area neighbors. You should feel
proud to be a City CarShare member because you are also supporting programs that extend access to car
sharing to those that may not otherwise be able to participate.
Welcome Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center!
This month we are also thrilled to announce our new partnership with Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical
Center (KPOMC). By partnering with City CarShare and adding a pod to their Howe & MacArthur garage, KPOMC
is expanding green car sharing to staff and the local community. Through this employee program fewer cars
will be driven to work. And by providing a network Pod for public access, KPOMC is giving the
community another way to Thrive®.
Remember, we have a discounted plan for Kaiser Permanente San Francisco employees and physicians too! For
details on the Kaiser Permanente plans visit http://www.citycarshare.org/KP.do.
As a community-based organization, City CarShare is looking to partner with businesses and institutions
that want to make a difference for their staff and community. If your school or organization is
interested in partnering with us, please email us at marketing@citycarshare.org to learn more.

To ring in the New Year, we are giving away a pair of free tickets to see Aurélia's
Oratorio at Berkeley Repertory
Theatre. To enter, write on our Facebook wall
how you are going to be more "green" during 2010. Maybe you are swearing off paper towels or pledging to

between January 19 and 31.
Connecting to us on Facebook and Twitter is a great way to share the word about City CarShare with your

each $20 in driving credit. You can even refer your business and get credits.

friends in on the secret too?

Driving Tip: If it's Blinking, it's Thinking
Although fobbing in is as easy as saying "open sesame", the wait time can vary. So here are some tips to enter and exit our vehicles.
Always hold your key fob steady over the fob reader (near the top) for 5-10 seconds.
When the fob reader starts blinking rapidly, our system is confirming that you have a
reservation. This can take anywhere from 30 seconds up to 1½ minutes. Since you need to circle the
car and check for any new damage each time you start your reservation, you can make good use of the
time the system needs to confirm your reservation. So remember, fob in, circle and inspect before
you drive.
If the doors do not unlock after 1½ minutes, double-check that you are at the correct
location and are trying to access the car-type you reserved. (Extra credit tip: get your reservation
confirmations sent via text message to your cell phone so you always have your reservation
information handy. Log in and select Account Info to get started.)
Once you have attempted to fob into a car please do not move to another car and try to fob
in. You will "confuse" the system and possibly delay your departure. When our system has confirmed
your reservation the vehicle will open.

Sports Basement Holiday Party Recap
Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Holiday Shopping Party at Sports Basement in December. Lots of
our members and friends showed up to save-n-shop, enjoy refreshments, chat up fellow members, and give
back to City CarShare with each discounted purchase.
Thanks to all of your shopping, Sports Basement made
a donation to support City CarShare's programs, like CommunityShare, mentioned above. It was
great to put fobs to faces and get a head start on our holiday shopping. Special thanks to Sports
Basement for hosting this wonderful event for the second straight year!
Thanks for Sharing!
