A Thanksgiving gift for you at $2.50/hour
November is truly a month to be thankful.
Exercising our right to vote, watching the change
of seasons and, for City CarShare members, recognizing that collectively this year we'll save
25 million pounds of CO2 emissions and over 30,000 miles driven each and every day. As
members of the only local nonprofit car share organization, you support socially responsible
car sharing and save money while doing it. Together, we only drive fuel-efficient and low
emission rated vehicles. Since most of your driving is local, our low hourly and mileage fees
increase turnover per car — a key indicator for successful car sharing. And because we care
about the whole community, we're able to offer innovative and inclusive services to everyone
with our wheelchair accessible van, BAWT Mobiles for youth groups, and programs for
low-income residents.
So how about a little gift to show our thanks? During Thanksgiving week, from November
24 to November 30, reservations at the following locations will be $2.50/hour (only
50¢/hour night owl rate!)
San Francisco
Bernal Heights: Wool & Cortland
Castro: Hattie & Market
Forest Hill: Portola & Woodside
Marina: Magnolia & Buchanan
Mission: Valencia & Cesar Chavez
Mission: Duboce & Mission
Potrero Hill: Mariposa & Carolina
Western Addition: Ellis & Fillmore (Fillmore Center)
Oakland
Lake Merritt: 3rd Ave & East 15th
Piedmont: Piedmont & Yosemite
Berkeley
North Berkeley: Le Conte & Euclid
North Berkeley: Ridge & Euclid
Downtown: Allston & Jefferson
This half off discount is our way of saying thanks for driving less, reducing congestion
and decreasing the need for parking. Since you're doing your part to make the Bay Area a
cleaner place to live and supporting your local nonprofit provider, we are giving back with
some holiday cheer! Oh, and by the way, if you want to say 'thanks back at ya', you can
always make a tax-deductible contribution to City CarShare to support our work to make the
Bay Area a better place to live. To make a donation, click here.
But that's not all...stay tuned for next month's holiday treat. Hint: start finding friends
who aren't CCS members — yet.
The discount will be automatically applied to any reservation from any of
the locations above starting on November 24 at 12:00 AM through November 30 at 11:45 PM. The
discount applies to all members EXCEPT Trial Program members. Discounts do not apply to
Extended Freedom Trips. Mileage rates are the same.

MTC Award Winner!
Making car sharing convenient and accessible for all Bay Area residents is one of our goals
as the Bay Area's only nonprofit car sharing organization. Last spring we made our service
even more accessible when we added the nation's first wheelchair accessible van, the
AccessMobile to our fleet.
On October 22, City CarShare and the City of Berkeley were awarded the Doris W. Kahn Accessible Transportation Award
by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) for our Access program. For
nearly three decades, MTC has recognized day-to-day and long-term efforts that improve
transportation in the Bay Area. View our short MTC Award video on our YouTube page to see how
the AccessMobile works and its life-changing affect on current members.
The AccessMobile was co-funded by the City of Berkeley and City CarShare. In 2007, the City
of Berkeley won the National Organization on Disability's Accessible America contest. The
City donated its $25,000 winnings to CCS for the van. With the guidance of Berkeley's
Commission on Disability, CCS chose the van and built a program that could serve as many people
as possible. The AccessMobile, located near BART in the downtown Berkeley Milvia and Center
pod, can accommodate two individuals using wheelchairs, plus three additional passengers and
a driver (depending on the size of the wheelchairs.)
The AccessMobile greatly increases travel options for the disabled, and according to CCS
member Michelle B, made it seamless for her bowling team to take one of their best bowlers
(with a 160 average) who uses an electric wheelchair to their annual Northern California
bowling tournament. Appreciative of the reduced transportation stress, Michelle said her team
"even got to go to dinner to celebrate, which we never get to do, because it can take 2-3
hours to get home using transit. The AccessMobile made it the best day ever!"
As a City CarShare member, you are supporting new ways to extend car sharing to the entire
region. For more information about the Access program, click here.

Results Are In - We're Proud of Our Members
Last month, we asked you to share your thoughts about our car selection through our online
survey. With responses from members all over the Bay Area, it was very helpful to hear
comments, suggestions and — we're not to modest to say — praise.
Consistent with past survey results, grocery shopping and running errands make up the
majority of your trips. You don't take many long distance trips but like the Extended
Freedom Trip option when you do. You use shared cars for a variety of other needs, like band
practice, doctor appointments, concerts on the other side of the Bay, and night class.
With the Prius hybrid being our fleet's most driven and popular car, it was not surprising to
learn that you are extremely conscientious of your carbon footprints. We are pleased to hear
that low CO2 emissions and fuel efficiency continue to be the most important features among
those who took the survey. With over 80 hybrid cars, and all of our vehicles at the highest
level of fuel efficiency for their class, we will continue to provide only high ranking
"green cars". Ultimately, a large number of you like our fleet mix, and would like us to add
more hybrids and specialty vehicles (mini coopers, vans), but (adamantly) no fuel-foolish
SUVs and big cars.
A special thanks to everyone who gave us their feedback in the survey. Congratulations to our
$100 driving credit winner John, member since 2006, and to Francis, Karla, Sam, Pat and Greg
who all received a pair of tickets to attend Shopping! The Musical.
Overall, we were tremendously pleased with your input because it reiterates that you, our
members, are in-line with our underlying mission to improve the environment and quality of
life in our cities. We will keep using these criteria as well as other noted preferences such
as driver visibility, capacity, top-notch safety standards and iPod hook-ups.

Give Thanks on Yelp
You use Yelp to dish about that tasty 'hole in the wall' restaurant you just discovered, the
best thrift store for snagging Halloween costumes, and to rave about the hair salon that gives
you the best style in town. Why not share some praise about your favorite car share
organization too?
Thanks to all the Yelpers out there for giving us props and feedback. We love it when people
share the word about City CarShare. So, don't be shy about posting the reasons you love City
CarShare on Yelp, your blog or favorite social networking site!

Driving Tip: Not So Fast...
Being an infrequent driver means you probably don't carry around a jumbo sized coin purse like
most car owners in the region. Unfortunately, many of us have to scramble for bills and change for tolls
and parking meters. Next time you're at the bank, remember to load up on extra quarters and
bills so you'll never have to worry about a dreaded parking ticket again.
We know that many of you are savvy bridge crossers who carry your own FasTrak transponders.
Please note that if you are using FasTrak in our cars, make sure your transponder is properly
placed in the center of the windshield (either 5 inches above or next to the rear view mirror.) As
you pass through the tollbooth, hold the transponder as close as possible to the suggested
area, while obeying traffic laws.
This is a friendly reminder that we cover gas, insurance, maintenance and reserved parking, but
all tickets, toll violations and other legal infractions come out of your pocket. When a
FasTrak violation arrives in our office we need to research our logs to find the responsible
member. If you are the one who incurred the fee, we will alert FasTrak to reassign it to you
and apply a $25 research fee to your City CarShare account. So please make sure you have the go
ahead from the electronic display before you proceed. And thanks for helping to reduce
smog-generating congestion at those toll crossings.
