Access for All
On Earth Day, City CarShare and the City of Berkeley
launched the nation's first wheelchair-accessible car
share van, the AccessMobile! Now those that
use a wheelchair can go anywhere they wish with
friends and family, whenever they want, without
having to own their own customized van. The
AccessMobile is available for use by any
City CarShare member and is located near BART in the
downtown Berkeley Milvia
and Center pod. During the weekdays, from 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m., the AccessMobile is available to
any City of Berkeley employee and any member who
either uses, or who wants to drive someone who uses,
a mobility assistive device. During evenings and
weekdays, the AccessMobile is available to
all CCS members.
In 2007, the City of Berkeley won the National
Organization on Disability's Accessible America
contest and received a $25,000 prize. City CarShare
developed a proposal and was awarded the prize money
as a grant toward the development of the service.
City CarShare matched the grant, and then some, to
finance the AccessMobile. City CarShare also worked
closely with the Berkeley Disability Commission to
build a program that could accommodate as many people
as possible. The AccessMobile can fit up to 2
passengers in wheelchairs, a driver and 3 other
passengers depending on the size of the wheelchairs.
Or, if a member doesn't need to transport a passenger
in a wheelchair, it can also accommodate a driver and
up to 5 seated passengers.
As a City CarShare member, you are supporting new
ways to extend car sharing to those who couldn't
access the service before Earth Day. For more
information about the Access program, click here.
As of this month, we also have two other vans in San
Francisco! All of our vans are priced at $7/hr and
40¢/mile. Reserve them from either the Civic
Center: Performing Arts pod or the Richmond: Clement
and 24th Avenue pod.

Doesn't it Feel Good to Ditch Your Car?
Or ditch the idea of buying a car? We certainly
think so! Not having to worry about high insurance
prices, expensive gas, and those pesky maintenance
problems sure makes life a lot less stressful. This
year, SF Weekly's Best of San Francisco has a "Best
reason to ditch your car" category. City CarShare
has won this contest before and we're ready to win
again. But we can't do that unless you vote for us.
So please Share the Love for your local, nonprofit
provider and vote
for City CarShare today! Deadline for votes is May 16.

Show Us Your Pride Contest
How much Pride do you have? Really? That much? So show us!
The annual SF Pride festivities are coming up June
28th and June 29th and we've got the best seats in
the house, as well as VIP admission to the fiercest
party. Lucky for you, we're all about sharing, so
we'll be rewarding contest winners with free tickets
to the following:
- Parade Grandstand Tickets (June 29th)
- VIP Pride Party Tickets (June 29th, City Hall)
To enter the contest, submit a video by Friday, June
13th that tells us why you are celebrating SF Pride and
why Sharing the Love as a City CarShare member is
important to you. Get clever! Be funny! Go musical!
You don't have to be a world-class director or
filmmaker to win, just be original and be yourself!
Once you've created your entry, upload the video to
your favorite video sharing site (YouTube, Vimeo,
imeem, etc) and send us
a link to your entry along with your name.
Choose your prize by letting us know if you would
like to win Grandstand tickets or VIP party tickets
when you submit your video. The tickets are provided
by the San Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender, Pride Celebration Committee Inc. as part
of our ongoing partnership. As a Bay Area nonprofit,
City CarShare is delighted to support and celebrate
SF Pride, and we hope to see many of you during the
weekend's festivities.
To make this year the best SF Pride yet, we have come
up with a fabulous idea for parade participants,
complete with costumes. If you want to be a part of
the fun, please email us
to join us in the parade or our booth.

Grab Your Bike on Bike to Work Day: May 15th
Join thousands of work-bound bikers on Thursday, May
15th for Bike to Work Day. If you don't ride to work
already, this is a great day to kick start a biking
routine. Joy Yu, who started commuting by bike on Bike
to Work Day, said "I knew there would be a lot more
people biking that day, which made it less scary. With
time, I got more used to traffic and biking in
general." Car sharing and biking are very compatible
ways to get around. At City CarShare, we encourage you
to walk, bike or take public transit when you can, and
share a car when you need to drive.
Both sides of the Bay have Bike to Work Day events.
Oakland and Berkeley: The
East Bay Bicycle Coalition
is hosting Energizer Stations. Check out the event
schedule and info here.
City CarShare will join the City of Oakland and EBBC to
cheer on riders at City Hall Plaza in Oakland so please
stop by, say hello and get fun freebies from 6:45 a.m. - 9:15 a.m.
San Francisco: The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition in
collaboration with the Metropolitan Transportation
Commission and local government agencies will be
setting up Energizer Stations as well. Get a map of the
Energizer Stations, Bike to Work Day info, tips, and
tricks here.
In support of those biking to school, City CarShare
will also be at the UCSF Parnassus campus (on the
Irving street side next to the parking garage bike
cages) from 7:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. If you see us out
there, please stop by and say hello.
For info about region-wide Bike to Work Day events, visit 511.org's BTWD site.
