Holiday Gifts For You

Better than ever, thanks to you!

As a City CarShare member, you Share The Love 365 days a year. Together, we’ve helped transport car sharing from a grassroots movement into the mainstream. Along the way we’ve helped thousands kick the habit of car ownership and increase their usage of alternative transportation – all while saving lots of money.

To celebrate all that sharing, we've got a special gift for you — holiday discounts! It's our way of saying thanks for getting rid of your car, reducing congestion and reducing the need for parking. We thank you for respecting the planet and doing your part to make the Bay Area a better place to live. Thanks for Sharing the Love!

Celebrating a Year of Better Service, More Options

We're always looking for ways to improve your car sharing experience. Check out how we've made car sharing easier, more flexible and better than ever this year:

Mobile reservations. On the go and online? You can reserve a car anytime without having to download a large reservation page. Just bookmark www.citycarshare.org/m and reserve any car from your Internet-savvy mobile device.

Share the Car, Share the Bag. This fall, we placed reusable shopping bags in all our San Francisco cars for members to share. And it works! SF members are using the bags and returning them to cars so the bags can be reused. It's just one more way City CarShare members are doing good things for the environment. For East Bay members, bags are now being introduced in your pods.

New plans to meet your driving needs. For individuals and households, we now have two plans to choose from: ShareLocal and SharePlus. We've introduced longer distance trip options so you can still enjoy low around-town rates and spend less to go farther for longer when you really need to get out of town. We've kept our rates low — when combining miles and hours, most trips are just over $6/hour on average.

More local customer service representatives. We've added more local staff to keep you moving and assist with questions. From our member services team to our fleet mechanics, we're constantly improving our operations so your car sharing experience is as smooth and quiet as a Prius hybrid.

Drive for $1/hour or even free. We've lowered our Night Owl savings to $1/hour. SharePlus members get free hours during this time. If you're visiting friends on the other side of the Bay and don't want to drive back until morning, or just like to stay out late, night hours are now even more affordable.

Option to lower your deductible and stress. With City CarShare, you're covered up to one million dollars per incident. No one else offers insurance even close to this. As with all car sharing organizations, you have a deductible. Our new Buck to Deduct option lets you reduce your $500 deductible to $50 for just $1 an hour. You're asked whether you want to Buck to Deduct every time you reserve a car, so you only pay for this option when you want it. And you'll never pay more than $6 when you choose to Buck to Deduct, no matter how long your reservation is.

Lots of cars — all fuel efficient. Have you checked out the cargo space in the Honda Fit yet? Taken the Scion xD for a spin? We've added new cars types to our fleet this year and all have something in common: fuel efficiency, low emissions, great cargo space and stylish designs. Plus they all get a thumbs-up from our mechanics. Check out the collection here.

Reaching out to new neighborhoods. This year we've expanded like never before. We are providing more locations and more availability in neighborhoods where you live. Plus, we've expanded into new neighborhoods. Now members living in Bernal Heights (SF), Fruitvale (Oakland), Lake Merritt, (Oakland), Alamo Square (SF), Ashbury Heights/Cole Valley (SF), Forest Hill (SF), areas of the Sunset and the Richmond (SF) all have access to pods in their neighborhood.

A Year of Giving Back

We love the Bay Area. As a local, nonprofit organization, we know how important it is to invest in our community. We do it through our service (100% of every dollar earned goes back into the community), our advocacy for social and environmental benefits, and by supporting wonderful local groups and initiatives. Throughout 2007 we've partnered and promoted many great organizations. Among them, the following includes those we highlighted in our newsletters or initiatives this year — for those with inquiring minds, click on the links below to learn more.

Driving tip: Transporting Christmas Trees

If you're using City CarShare to pick up or drop off a Christmas tree, please follow these instructions, listed in order of preference. This will prevent sticky sap, scratches and pine needles on and in the cars:
  • Try to use a pick-up truck — no need to worry about messing up any interiors.
  • No truck? Make sure you wrap the tree so you don't mess up the interior of the cars with sticky sap and needles. To carry the tree on top of the car, place a blanket on the roof and then fasten the tree on top of the blanket with ropes.
For information on places to drop off the trees or better yet, tree pick up services:
  • SF: Place trees on curbs on your pick up day from Dec 31-January 11 — remove all tinsel decorations, stands and lights. For more information, click here.
  • East Bay: Info here.

Recycle your old electronics for a cleaner future

Many of us get new televisions, cell phones, digital cameras and other electronic devices during the holidays. Give a gift to the environment this season by recycling your old electronics and preventing the toxins contained within from contaminating the environment. City CarShare is proud to offer our members a way to 'pay less to be green' for the holidays. Just flash your fob and receive 10% off of all your electronic recycling needs at GreenCitizen Inc., an environmentally responsible, convenient and safe electronics recycler.
