New Plans, New Perks!
Introducing Share Local and
Share Plus
City CarShare believes in change. In fact, as a
leader in socially responsible car sharing, we're
counting on change. As more people embrace City
CarShare, we all benefit from the change in
congestion (less of it), use of fossil fuels (much
less of it) and emission of CO2 (tons less of it).
While we love these changes... over the past four years
we haven't done a lot of changing when it comes to
membership plans.
That all changes now.
Beginning November 1, we're pleased to introduce a
change to our individual and household memberships -
say hello to the new Share Local and
Share Plus plans. Both plans offer
more options and benefits to match the way you drive.
We've kept the hourly and mileage rates low ($5/hour
& 40¢/mile) since most of your driving is local, but
we've introduced new Extended Freedom rates ($40/day
& 10¢/mile) because sometimes you just need to get
out of town. We're also introducing new Night Owl
pricing as low as $0/hour (that's right... that's a
zero) depending on your plan. For most of us, a trip
will average $6.00 to $6.50 per hour with either plan.
All current individual and household members will
be automatically converted to the Share Local plan on
November 1. If you want to upgrade to Share Plus
(more discounted trips and perks) or find out more
information, log
in to the reservation system and select the
"Account Info" tab. From here click on "billing
plans." You can upgrade from Share Local to Share
Plus anytime for free, but to make it for the
November launch upgrade today!
So, while some things change… some things at City
CarShare never will. For example, our dedication to
your protection is secured with our industry leading
premium insurance. When driving City CarShare
vehicles, you are covered at the highest levels - $1
million dollars per incident. And, while you are
responsible for a $500 deductible, we do provide you
the opportunity to lower that amount with our new
Buck to Deduct option. Buck to
Deduct provides you the option to lower your
insurance deductible on each trip for $1/hour (max
$6/trip), lowering your financial obligation in case
of a fender bender.
We developed these new plans based on your input,
discussions with other car sharing organizations and
our experience with how your car sharing usage has
changed over the years. We've kept it simple and
believe Share Local and Share Plus plans will help
you to drive for less, share more and be green. Let
us know what you think!

Free compact fluorescent light bulbs!
Lights Out San Francisco (LOSF) invites the entire
city of San Francisco to turn off all non-essential
lighting on Saturday, October 20, 2007, from 8-9
p.m. As part of this energy awareness event, LOSF
is encouraging everyone to replace at least one
regular light bulb with an energy efficient compact
fluorescent light bulb (CFL). Those who
participate will save money on their energy bills
and contribute to an energy efficient Bay Area.
Free Light Bulbs! LOSF will be distributing compact
fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) for FREE to San
Franciscans from now until October 20th at their
office at 2548 Mission and at community events
throughout San Francisco. City CarShare is helping
LOSF distribute these energy saving light bulbs by
leaving free CF bulbs at some of our San Francisco
pods. If you see one at a pod, or somewhere in the
car, please take it home and replace an energy
inefficient incandescent bulb, courtesy of Lights Out
SF and City CarShare.

Driving Tip: Tuck it in before backing up
Some parking lots, like a few nameless grocery
stores, challenge drivers by requiring them to have
expert-level maneuvering abilities to enter and exit
a "cozy" parking space. Many of the side mirrors on
our cars fold in. If you are navigating a tight
spot, try folding in the side mirrors. It'll be
easier to back up. Plus you'll avoid hearing that
awful crunching sound that occurs when a side mirror
gets rammed against a post!

PARK(ing) Day
On September 21st some
City CarShare members set up mini parks in parking
spaces as part of the PARK(ing) Day project. City
CarShare donated driving credits in support of our
members' creative efforts to spread the mission of
PARK(ing) Day: to rethink the way streets are used,
call attention to the need for urban parks, and improve
the quality of urban human habitat.
Pictured here is
PARK(ing) Paradise by Robin Levitt, located in
front of the office of Scott Ellsworth, Architect near
our 20th and Valencia pod. Here passersby could slip
off their shoes and wade in the kiddie pool or just
lounge under one of the imported palm trees. CC Puede,
a CCS-affiliated participant, used their nearby PARK(ing)
space at Mission and Cesar Chavez to provide free
health screenings and advice. To learn more about CC
Puede, click here.
