10th Anniversary Recap: Cheers to 10 Years and Beyond ...
|
 | |
Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi with our Board Chair and CEO
|
We celebrated our first decade of carsharing success on October 19, with over 400 City CarShare members, friends, community partners, and public officials. Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi kicked off the event by recognizing our accomplishments and forecasting a future marked by continued growth in the carshare model. Thanks to all of you who joined us.
During the event, we outlined three aggressive goals for the next decade, designed to make the Bay Area a better place to live, work, breathe, and play:
 | |
By 2020, 20,000 cars will be removed from the Bay Area. That's enough cars to fill 6 Golden Gate Bridges.
|
> By 2020, we will remove 20,000 cars from Bay Area roads because our members share cars instead of owning them. That's enough cars to fill the Golden Gate Bridge, bumper to bumper, 6 times.
> While removing cars from roads, we will also give our fleet a greener tint by having 50% electric-based or alternative fuel vehicles by the year 2015.
> And by 2020 our members will save a whopping $1 billion over the costs of car ownership.
We also honored our 3 founders (Gabriel Metcalf, Elizabeth Sullivan, Kate White) and the first 3 cities that supported carsharing in the Bay Area. Check out the quicklinks below for event photos and a video we made about the founding of City CarShare:

Sip and Dine While Supporting Our Cause at Credo
|
Despite the meaty speeches and hearty applause served up at our 10th Anniversary Gala, attendees found it a bit hard to ignore the serious party happening in their mouth (crab cake sliders, people!). Homegrown hotspot Credo was the culinary wizard behind our "stalk-that-waiter" hors d'oeuvres at our event, and we're pleased to report we all have another excuse to check out their fare.
Throughout November, City CarShare is Credo's featured community partner. Credo, a San Francisco restaurant that goes beyond just serving food, highlights a local, socially relevant group and provides special fundraising opportunities each month.
Credo has concocted a signature cocktail to be served up all month in honor of City CarShare. Belly up to the bar and ask for City CarShare's "Green Fleet," a smooth blend of fair-trade quinoa vodka, organic basil, fresh-squeezed lime juice and simple syrup, served on the rocks. For every "Green Fleet" purchased through the end of November, Credo will donate a generous ⅓ of signature drink sales back to City CarShare programs. So stop by for happy hour, pause for the cause, and enjoy!
Thirsty for more than a drink? Mark your calendar for Wednesday, November 16, when City CarShare hosts Takeover Night at Credo. When you stop in for dinner on this day, City CarShare programs will receive 20% of net receipts over the daily average. Hmmm ... sounds like an above-average excuse to ask that special someone on a mid-week date! For more details stay tuned to our Facebook wall and sign-up to receive an invite to our Takeover Night.

We ♥ The Bay Area: Squishy's Last Month
|
November marks the 10th and final month of our We ♥ the Bay Area giveaways, which means that this is the last chance to spot Squishy sitting shotgun, tucked away style, in your neighborhood car.
A stealthy squad of 10 plush Pacific Pink Octopi --Squishy!-- have been hidden in 10 City CarShare vehicles all around the Bay. During your next reservation, check the glove compartment of your car. If you find a few extra tentacles hitching a ride, you've won! Each Squishy is holding a scroll with directions on how to claim your trove of locally sponsored treasure. Be sure to follow Squishy on Twitter for revealing hints on his coordinates.
Stay tuned to our December 2011 newsletter, where we will announce the Grand Prize winner for our We ♥ the Bay Area send off. One lucky member will win the BIG prize, which includes a FREE City CarShare annual membership (your monthly or annual Membership Service Fee will be waived for a year); goodies from past We ♥ sponsors; and, rumor has it, Squishy is throwing in an awesome prize that you can take a "byte" out of.
Our We ♥ the Bay Area giveaways are a way for us to share our infinite appreciation of your support, as well as a way to introduce (or reacquaint!) you to neighborhood gems both fresh and familiar. All prizes are goods and services donated by local businesses.

Fall Back on Sunday, Nov 6. Daylight Saving Time Ends
|
Remember to set your clocks an hour back this Sunday, November 6, for the end of Daylight Saving Time. With this change, any late Saturday night reservations and weekend Day Trips may be affected.
Our system will "roll back" at 2 a.m. late Sunday morning (or late Saturday night for you night owls). So, if you reserve a car from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday night, you'll have the car for 3 hours, not 2 hours. And you will be charged for three hours.
Due to the clocks rolling back, the time you have the car during these hours will be longer than the time you read off any clock. Double check the amount of time you reserved a car before confirming any reservations for this weekend.

New Phone Reservation System
|
Say hello to a new automated telephone reservation system (actually you won't have to say a thing as the system is touch-tone entry). In addition to simplifying the process of making and extending your reservation, this phone system is far more intuitive and allows you to do more on the go. Learn how this new phone reservation system, in its beta phase, works by clicking here. To use the beta phone system, update your contacts with (415) 799-3535 to try it out! If you have any comments about this new system, please e-mail us at memberservices@citycarshare.org. The old system will still be available at (877) 363-0710 for a few weeks while we test the new system. And don't forget you can always make reservations with our mobile reservation system at citycarshare.org/m.
