We ♥ the Bay Area and We ♥ our Members
While we enjoy the arrival of sunshine and warmer weather in the Bay Area, there's another natural wonder
waiting to welcome you into spring—meet Squishy, a stuffed toy East Pacific Red Octopus, who just might be waving his tentacles
out of the glove compartment in your next reserved City CarShare vehicle.
May marks the fourth month of our We ♥ the Bay Area
goodie bag giveaway. In celebration of our 10th
Anniversary Year, we're hiding prize-winning tickets—cheerfully guarded by Squishy—in 10 of our cars every month. It's
our way of saying Thank You for supporting our mission to create a healthier Bay Area through affordable, alternative,
and sustainable modes of transportation. Every month's trove of treasures is sponsored by local businesses—some are even
offering exclusive discounts for City CarShare members during their featured month.

Cinco de Mayo Mixer
If the 9-to-5 routine is making you loco, then it's time to take cinco and regroup. On Thursday, May 5, City CarShare
and the Neighborhood Parks Council (NPC) encourage you to wave adios to the workweek blues and join us
for a fundraising fiesta on Cinco de Mayo at the Hayes Valley hotspot, Rebel Bar, 1760 Market St.
between McCoppin & Octavia in San Francisco.
From 6-9 p.m., members and their friends are invited to mingle while City CarShare
and NPC staffers mix it up as guest bartenders. Proceeds from tips go to support both organizations' programs, so bring
your amigos.
As part of City CarShare's 10 Anniversary Year, the Cinco de Mayo Mixer will feature scrumptious all-natural cupcakes to

Lower Driving Rates and the Best Insurance Coverage You Can Get? You Betcha!
You don't need a caveman, a gecko, or the fictional former president from 24 to tell you that City CarShare's car
insurance is the best in the industry. In fact, at up to $1 million per incident, you'd be hard pressed to find any
spokesperson (anamorphic or not) who could provide you with better coverage.
Let's be direct. Insurance is critical and City CarShare believes that you, our members, require more than just
coverage. You also need protection. That's why we provide a premium level of comprehensive insurance that is included in
your driving costs. When you share a CCS vehicle, you are automatically covered for damage, bodily injury, and property
damage. As we all know, accidents are awful (there is just no way to spin it) but if something bad happens on the road,
you (and your passengers) are protected. We even cover uninsured or underinsured motorists.
Generally, if you have an accident, you are responsible for a $500 deductible (an amount typically lower than most personal policy deductibles).
However, most members can opt for a $50 deductable by choosing Buck to Deduct on
any given trip. Use it when you are going into uncharted territory or when you just want to be extra cautious.
You can also make Buck to Deduct the default setting for all your trips. Just
log in and select Account, then the
Settings tab to set your preference. Details about Buck to Deduct can be found here.
Whether your deductible is $500 or $50, please share safely out there.

Keep Sharing - RideShare Update
In February 2011, City CarShare's new RideShare pilot program opened the passenger side door to sharing the love in a
neighborly way. RideShare is a members-only trip sharing hub that expands your transit options to include all the routes
and destinations where your fellow City CarShare members live, work, and play.
Whether you are looking for a ride or want to share your reservation, the process is easy.
Congratulations to Mary K. for winning $100 to spend at Rainbow Grocery. Mary was among the first 100
drivers to post on RideShare. In addition to the raffle, the first 50 members who posted a ride to share earned a sweet $10
driving credit.

A Dose of Real Culture: FACT/SF
Whether art imitates life or life imitates art, they are one in the same for the exhilarating production from the
fiercely talented dancers of local nonprofit powerhouse, FACT/SF.
Inspiring audiences since 2008, FACT/SF is the creative vision of founder and resident Artistic Director Charles
Slender. Slender's quirky and colorful theatrical visions blend the traditions of postmodern performance and
contemporary ballet, seasoned with a liberal dose of the raw and unexpected.
This month, FACT/SF is set to thrill with its Home Season 3.0. From May 20-22, Slender's corps-de-wow will be taking
part in the SF International Arts Festival with performances of The Consumption Series. If you're tired of the reality
TV routine, FACT/SF is your best bet for a dose of real culture...and your ticket to a taste of true talent might just be
on the house! City CarShare is proud to see art thrive in our community, and we have 8 tickets for The Consumption
Series to give away to our members! Stay tuned to our Log in Page and Facebook page for ways to win.
|
Prize Alert!

For your chance to win a ticket to the FACT/SF show we want to know what school mascot Charles Slender sports on
his well-worn rehearsal duds. Hint: Slender won the Chancellor's Eisner Award for "highest achievement in the creative
arts" during his undergraduate years. Visit www.factsf.org to learn more about the company.
Email your answer to marketing@citycarshare.org by May 9 to earn a chance to win.

Gas Fuel Level Policy: Survey Says, No Change!
Whether you're a gas tank-half-empty realist or a gas tank-half-full optimist, your City CarShare membership shows your
dedication to sharing resources.
We count on our members to keep our unstaffed fleet primed for sharing. And that means making sure the
next member has gas in the tank before they roll out of the Pod. Currently, City CarShare requires members to fill up
the tank before they return the vehicle if the gas gauge falls below half a tank during their reservation. Returning a
car to its pod with less than half a tank of gas is not only an inconvenience to the next member, but also incurs a
penalty fee of $25 for you. While having to stop at the pump during your trip may seem like a hassle, our fuel-efficient
fleet and quarter-hour trip extension option (less than $2 per 15 minutes) work in your favor.
Because fines are always a hot issue for any service, we've recently considered changing our Gas Refill Policy
guidelines to satisfy our growing membership. To gather your valuable input, we conducted a poll in April
to see how members felt about the current minimum ½ tank policy and to gauge preferences for an ideal refill policy.
The results show that most of you—a solid 70%—are content with the current policy of refilling at ½ tank. Only twenty
percent of those who took the poll favor bringing the refill level down to ¼ tank. Given the large majority of members
who want to stick with our current policy, we have decided to keep the Gas Refill policy at ½ tank. Thanks everyone for
weighing in and congrats to Jill W. who won $10 in credit for participating.

Bike to Work Day
Every day across the Bay, thousands of men and women get dressed for their thousands of unique jobs with one common love
for commute couture—nothing says earth-friendly fashion like a snazzy helmet and reflective ankle straps. Just as the
fog rolls over the city, bike riders are rolling out the door to show the world they are committed to reducing their
carbon footprint and improving their health by biking to work.
If you've ever shared the road with a bike rider in the midst of a rainstorm or admired a biker from across the aisle of
a BART car (wow, nice quads!), you'll want to mark your calendar for the 17th Annual Bike to Work Day
on May 12, 2011. When it comes to the Bay Area's two-wheeling workforce, you really
can't beat 'em—so here's your chance to join 'em!
If biking to work is already a part of your daily routine, Bike to Work Day is a celebration of your commitment to
nurturing a healthier community through living green. City CarShare is proud to be a part of the sustainable
transportation strategy for many Bay Area bikers whether they're at work or play. We feel great hearing stories from our
biking enthusiast membership about times when City CarShare spared them from the hassle, high costs, and heartache of
not owning a car in a way that encourages them to keep biking. Explore more ways to push those pedals at
http://www.youcanbikethere.com/.
On Thursday May 12, City CarShare staffers will join members from both the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition (SFBC)
and the East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC) to host some of
their 100+ Energizer Stations throughout San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and Alameda. All nine Bay Area counties are
participating in the celebration and you'll find every Energizer Station stocked with hot fair-trade coffee, breakfast
goodies, bike maps, information on biking advocacy, and a hearty round of applause.

More about our We ♥ the Bay Area sponsors
Rickshaw, continued
Rickshaw thinks it's weirdly cool the way people grow attached to their favorite bags, so they encourage customers to
express themselves through their bags by choosing from a rainbow of colors and materials. Both in-store and online, you
can choose from a range of posh performance tweeds, rugged nylons and vibrant waterproof sailcloth. Find the cut and
fabric that speak to you at www.rickshawbags.com.
The Rickshaw team shares a strong set of humanistic, environmental and social values that guide the way they conduct
every aspect of business. The company's name derives from three Japanese characters meaning "human powered
vehicle"—delightfully apropos for a company making bags for bicycle enthusiasts, and our metaphor for the strength of
the human spirit.
Rainbow Grocery Cooperative, continued
As an independent, local, and worker-owned grocery store, Rainbow provides goods from local organic farmers, bakers,
dairies, and other businesses whenever possible. They strive to provide affordable groceries for all while minimizing
their ecological footprint.
Berkeley Bowl, continued
The Berkeley Bowl team sources seasonal produce from local farmers whenever possible, and bulk bins are filled with
everything from tri-color fettuccini to semolina flour (when the urge for hand-made pasta strikes you). A true
neighborhood gem, the Berkeley Bowl has collected so many fans over the years that one building just can't hold them
all! In the summer of 2009, foodies everywhere had their fondest wish granted when Berkeley Bowl West opened across
town with a spacious underground parking garage to boot. Whether you shop at "the Bowl" each week or have yet to roam
its well-stocked aisles, City CarShare gives the market two Red Thumb potatoes up!
Citizen Bean, continued
Their fresh picks (always shipped within days of roasting) are available to Citizen Bean members as coffee roaster
of-the-month subscriptions. Dedicated to small batch roasters, sustainable farming and social responsibility, Citizen
Bean is a perfect We ♥ the Bay Area sponsor.
Citizen Bean's unique concept and delicious coffees have earned accolades from both the experts (editors at Martha
Stewart Living call it "the most banging coffee-of-the-month-club" around) and the public subscriptions are available for three,
six, and twelve-month periods, all backed by Citizen Bean's 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. Learn more about the
company and how to sign up at www.citizenbean.com.
