Share the Car, Share the Ride

Get Free Credits and More for Trying CCS RideShare

Don't you love it when your friends from the other side of the Bay invite you to join them on a trip to Tahoe? All you have to do is get to the other side of the Bay. With your gear. And your boyfriend. This is a perfect time to check out our new CCS RideShare program.

With the CCS RideShare program, we've expanded your options for getting around the Bay Area, wherever City CarShare members live, work, and play. Any City CarShare member with a personal account can offer to share their reservation with another member by opting-in to CCS RideShare during the reservation process. The process is easy:
  • On the pending reservation screen, select Share this Ride
Be one of the first 50 drivers to list your ride and you'll receive $10 in driving credit (limit one per member). And if your RideShare connection(s) is/are within the first 100 connections during March and April, you and your RideShare passenger can EACH win a $100 gift certificate to either Rainbow Grocery in SF or Berkeley Bowl in the East Bay (your choice). Every connection you make within the first 100 connections in March and April will be an entry to win!

Need a lift? If you could use a ride across town but need both your hands to play Angry Birds, you can log in and search for an open ride by clicking on the RideShare link. If you find a compatible ride, send the driver a ride-along request. If the driver is interested, she/he will send you a message, and the two of you take it from there—simple!

In an effort to protect your privacy, the names and Member IDs of both drivers and passengers are not disclosed through the reservation system. It is up to you to exchange names, personal numbers, meet up plans and route logistics, as well as any compensation arrangements (should you decide to share trip costs).

Find Hidden Prizes in our Cars!

Last month we launched our We ♥ the Bay Area membership appreciation promotion to celebrate our 10th Anniversary year.

Each month for 10 months, we are hiding 10 prize certificates in 10 of our vehicles for members to find. Each member who finds a ticket receives a special "goodie bag" sponsored by local businesses. At the end of the year, we will hold a random drawing for a grand prize, open to all active members. This grand prize will feature big prizes, all from local Bay Area businesses.

So check the glove compartment each time you hop in one of our cars. Here are the goodies for March: Inside the Prize—March's Goodies:
  • Tickets to a Play at the SF Playhouse - 2 tickets to WireHead, (March 15-April 23), valid for any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night performance
  • Acoustic Africa Concert Tickets by CIIS Public Programs - Two tickets to Acoustic Africa featuring Habib Koite, Oliver Mtukudzi, and Afel Bocoum on Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. Winner must redeem this offer by March 18, 2011. And if you find your prize after the 18th, we'll send you to an equally riveting concert.
  • Goodies for your bike by PUBLIC - 1 bike hand pump, plus $50 towards non-bike merchandise with bike purchase
  • Yummy Chocolate from Socola Chocolatier - 4-piece gourmet chocolate sampler
  • Driving Credits on us: $10

Join us at Member's Night for WireHead, March 24

Join us for a birthday toast and a play honoring City CarShare members at the SF Playhouse. Enjoy a pre-play party (say that 10 times fast!), followed by a production of WireHead on Thursday, March 24 at 8 p.m. CCS members get $35 tickets for the March 24 performance by calling the box office at (415) 677-9596 and asking for the City CarShare tickets (Save $5). Feel free to bring friends and family as well.

To start the evening off right, we'll be hosting a happy hour for members across the street at Hotel Rex starting at 6 p.m. Flash your fob and get a free drink! We'll have cupcakes too, so bring friends. (SF Playhouse is within walking distance of BART/MUNI so it'll be easy to get there without driving.)

WireHead dives headlong into the universal human fear of change to explore what happens when a wire implant that increases one's intelligence is made available to the public. What if you couldn't afford it while others tapped into this mind boost? The "wireheads" in this play find themselves at odds with non-wireheads and, as hilarity, mystery, and tragedy ensue, you'll find yourself asking: "Just because something can be done, should it be done?"

Click here for more about this play.

Pod Watch

We've added a new location in San Francisco at Berry & 7th Street!

We're always on the lookout for primo spaces to serve our growing membership. If you would like to offer parking or make suggestions for new Pods or vehicle types, please contact us at memberservices@citycarshare.org.

San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival

We are proud to sponsor the 29th Annual San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival (SFIAAFF), founded in 1982 to counteract negative images and stereotypes of Asian Americans in mainstream media. With grassroots beginnings nurtured on the potent spirit of historical change, the SFIAAF has blossomed into the largest and most prestigious showcase for new Asian American and Asian films in North America. From March 10-20, the 29th Annual SFIAAFF will showcase nearly 120 inspiring feature films, narrative journeys, documentaries, digital and interactive media projects and cinema shorts in San Francisco, Berkeley, and San Jose.

The SFIAAFF has grown beyond indie filmmaker Loni Ding's original mission to provide Asian American programming for broadcast on public television. The SFIAAFF provides a platform for the creative work of previously underrepresented communities such as Pacific Islanders, South Asians, queers, and hapas.

Stay tuned to us on Facebook for SFIAAFF ticket giveaways! Learn more about the history of the festival, download the lineup of this year's featured flicks, and buy tickets to all events at http://caamedia.org/festival/.

Sunday Streets are Back!

San Francisco's Sunday Streets are back in 2011 with eight dates, later hours (11 a.m. - 4 p.m.) and revised routes in SF neighborhoods. This year will kick off on Sunday, March 20 along the Embarcadero from Fisherman's Wharf to Mission Bay. Throughout the year, events will also be held along the Great Highway and Golden Gate Park; in the heart of the Mission; around Mission Bay, Dogpatch to the Bayview Opera House; the Civic Center/Tenderloin neighborhoods; and Western Addition, including North of Panhandle, Alamo Square and Fillmore and Japantown neighborhoods.

City CarShare is proud to partner with Sunday Streets to create safe, fun car-free spaces on San Francisco streets. The event gives residents an opportunity to get active and it generates a stronger sense of community. We'll be participating in all eight events this year, with fun activities that will bring you back to the days when playing was at the top of your agenda all the time.

Lost Items: Leave 'em Behind

From econ notes to sippy cups, finding a slice of someone else's life when you arrive at your CCS car can be an amusing introduction to your fellow members. The best way for these members to reunite with their belongings is to leave their items in the car. That way they can retrace their steps, and return to the car to retrieve their belongings later.

If an item seems too valuable to leave unattended, please call Member Services at 415-995-8588. We will try to contact the previous driver to inform them of the situation. If you are calling after business hours, please leave Member Services a message with your name, Member ID, 4-digit VIN number, reservation details, and a detailed description of the item. And if you find that the left-behind items prevent you from using the car comfortably, call our ER line so we can assist you right away.

Hello, My Name is TEDx

If you're into making global change out of local ideas, you may already be part of TED's inner circle. This April, prepare to be properly introduced. Devoted to "Ideas Worth Spreading," TED was conceived in 1984 as a conference that brings together movers and shakers from the worlds of technology, entertainment and design.

At a TEDx event, where x = a local, independently organized TED experience, thought leaders gather to learn, discuss, and connect outside of the office realm. On April 2, 2011, TEDxPresidio will bring together some of the brightest minds in business who are shaping the future of their sectors. And City CarShare will be there with one of our plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to show how we bring cutting-edge mobility to Bay Area households in an affordable manner. And when you share our PHEVs (and soon our full electric vehicles), you grow cultural acceptance of a greener way to get around. In other words, you are movers and shakers in your own right as CCS members.

A limited amount of tickets for TEDxPresidio are being reserved for City CarShare members at a discount of 10% off the ticket price. Purchase tickets online here with the code partner2011 to reserve your seat at the Palace of the Fine Arts.

SF Playhouse, continued
Since 2003, the professional theatre founded by Susi Damilano and Bill English has dedicated itself to providing a creative playground for actors, directors, writers and designers to produce works that celebrate the human spirit. Hailed by SF Weekly as "a small delicacy," the SF Playhouse has become an intimate theatre alternative to traditional stage fare.

From March 15 - April 23, SF Playhouse will showcase the regional premiere of WireHead. Check out the article above for more details or find out more about the eclectic new offerings for the 2011 season at www.sfplayhouse.org.

Socola Chocolatier, continued
Socola co-founders, Wendy and Susan, are also sisters, and the story of their journey from college grads to kitchen gurus is as sweet as their award-winning confections. While Susan's work with sustainable cacao farmers in Vietnam deepened her appreciation for the art of the bean, Wendy immersed herself in pastry school to refine her skills and deepen her knowledge.

Inspired by their Vietnamese roots and dedicated to the appreciation of local artisanship by San Francisco's unique foodie community, chief chocolatier Wendy dreams up truffles with flavors as exotic as lychee and guava, as familiar as roasted coffee and caramel.

Discover more about all the faces behind Socola's labor of love at www.socolachocolates.com.
CCS Member Perk: For the entire month of March, City CarShare members who make a purchase from Socola's online store will receive 15% off their order with promo code: CCS15.
