We ♥ the Bay Area

TopIf you were a Pacific Octopus looking for a friendly place to crash, what could feel more close to home than a resting Pod of gentle blue...Toyota hybrids?  If you spot Squishy-our stuffed toy octopus mascot-inside your City CarShare vehicle this month, you're in for a whale-sized prize of your own.  June marks the fifth fabulous month of our 10th Anniversary We the Bay Area promotion.  To show our appreciation for members who keep us driving change forward, we're hiding Squishy in ten different City CarShare vehicles each month for ten months throughout the Bay Area.  Squishy likes people so if you find him, take him home with you to claim your trove of treasures.

Local businesses and organizations donate generous goodies for our prize packages each month and this month's prizes are:

  • Yoshi's: $25 gift certificate (valid for SF or Oakland)
  • Punch Line: 2 tickets to a show
  • Sweet Revolution: A box of locally crafted caramels
  • Brick House Images: $20 towards a digital photography lesson
  • Driving Credits: 10 Driving Credits on us

Yoshi's

Nothing tastes better with a cool sliver of briny, spiny lobster than a hot lick of bittersweet jazz.  For us Bay Area culture-hounds, Yoshi's is an exquisite gem that has been serving up memorable musical experiences seven nights a week in Oakland and San Francisco.

Punchline

Why do chicken coops have two doors?

Because if they had four doors, they'd be chicken sedans.

Okay, we're hearing crickets here so we will turn this total travesty of a punchline into a real one - through the Punchline Comedy Club.

Fear not comic relief isn't far away.  Actually, it's been here for over 30 years. PunchlineSF has been keeping a fresh tingle in the Bay Area's funny bone with ripe and ready belly laughs to brighten the day.

Spring has Sprung with New Pods and Cars

mini couple gretchen

It's a short drive to Trader Joe's on Masonic for some refrigerator restocking, but why not make the tripwith the top down on a hot summer day?  We think you should have that option.  That's why we spiced up our fleet with new Mini Cooper convertibles.  We added three at these new locations:

  • SF: Parnasus UCSF
  • SF: Crocker Garage
  • SF: Fulton and Masonic

And Oaktown folks can sizzle in style by reserving a shiny black Mini from our new Pod here:

  • Oakland: Broadway and 41st in Oakland

Flash of Brilliance: The Local Perks of a CCS Fob

We wouldn't normally recommend flashing in broad daylight...or even after sundown, for that matter.  However, when you flash your City CarShare key fob the reaction-exclusive member discounts, bonus perks, and high fives-makes flashing in public a budget-friendly activity for the whole family.  As a member, you get to enjoy discounts from local businesses and organizations year-long.

Since so many CCS members are also loyal members and customers of other Bay Area businesses and organizations, what better way to see our cities thrive than to show our love for the people (yup, we're talking to you!) who keep us going strong?  Your City CarShare key fob unlocks a lot more than that cherry-red Mini Cooper.  For a full list of current member perks, go here http://www.citycarshare.org/perks.do.  Feeling perky and own a business? To provide a perk, contact us at <marketing@citycarshare.org>

Alameda Island: Pedal-pushing Paradise

If you are hankering for some Alameda island charm and are already making plans to get there through the Posey tube, try trading your sunhat for a bike helmet.  Always a bike-friendly city, Alameda has just made it even easier for riding around on two-wheels.  The City of Alameda has recently added secure bicycle parking near City CarShare Pods located downtown (Santa Clara & Park and Central & Oak) and West End (Santa Clara & Webster.)These Pods are also located near main transit lines providing buses and trains to Oakland and San Francisco.

And while the summer heat will mean (eventually!) that most of us are paring our outfits way down, City CarShare vehicles are getting dressed up for the season.  Bike racks are now installed on all Subaru Outbacks fleetwide!  And don't forget, bikes can fit in many of our cars.

A Taste of the Local Good: Order the Fob du Jour from our International Carsharing Partners

When it comes to living green through carsharing, City CarShare is proud to be your personal choice for affordable and convenient transportation.  We think that focusing our resources on a dedicated region strengthens our mission to change the world at large. But if you find yourself "at-large" this summer season, and need an occasional set of wheels, you can still get hourly access to cars in other cities and countries.

City CarShare has partnered with a dozen community-minded carsharing organizations to give you the same freedom while you travel that you enjoy with us at home.  Whether you're chowing down on a righteous cheesesteak in Philadelphia or chugging pails of pure maple syrup in Vermont woods, PhillyCarshare and  Carshare Vermont are just two of the dozen organizations that will treat you like family when you are away from home. Traveling abroad?  If you're going down under to throw a few shrimps on the barbie, you can be an honorary Aussie with GoGet, serving Sydney and Melbourne.

Visit our website for a full list of our partner organizations, the timelines you should follow to build a seamless travel itinerary, and for the special membership discounts you receive for already being a City CarShare member.
