Join us at SF Pride!
San Francisco's Pride celebration is coming up on June 26 and 27, and City CarShare is proud to support the festivities
for the 9th year in a row. SF Pride is dedicated to education, the commemoration of LGBT heritage and the celebration of LGBT
culture and liberation. We hope you'll join us for the events throughout the San Francisco Pride Celebration weekend.
This year we are partnering with ODC School Rhythm & Motion
Dance Program by dancing our way down Market Street together in the parade. And you are welcome to join us! Don't miss
your chance to participate in this beloved Bay Area tradition. Email marketing@citycarshare.org to strut with us in the
parade. No dancing is required, but we will be playing some pretty irresistible music, so we won't be surprised if you bust a
move.
While you're at it, convey your pride for being a City CarShare member and 'like' us on
Facebook or mention us in a
Twitter tweet. Throughout the month we will be running ticket
contests for Parade Grandstand and VIP party tickets, so get in on the fun.

City CarShare Members Top Efforts to Recycle Phones and Plant Trees
In April, City CarShare launched a partnership with the PlantMyPhone reforestation program to give members a new way to recycle cell phones and fund tree
planting projects. We are thrilled to report that you, our green-conscious members, are the 3rd most successful group in the
Bay Area that is participating in the PlantMyPhone program. Thanks to you, 40 phones are being recycled and 70 trees are
being planted.
For each phone recycled, PlantMyPhone will plant trees. The number of trees planted per phone depends on the type of phone
and its condition. As special thanks to the first 20 City CarShare members who recycled their phones, each member is being
awarded $5 in driving credit.
But wait! It's not too late to participate. If you have an old phone you would like to recycle, here's how you can recycle it:
Get a secure postage-paid mailer bag from inside our reusable shopping bags already available in all of our cars.
Or, stop by our office at 1182 Market Street, Suite 300, SF (in the Orpheum Theater building above the Civic Center
BART/Muni station) and pick up a mailer bag during our office hours, Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm.
- Place your phone in the postage-paid mailer and mail your phone in!
For a chance to win $1,000, register the tracking barcode on the phone mailer at http://register.plantmyphone.com. 1 out of every 500 City
CarShare members who participate will win.

Use Your Phone to Clean Up the Bay Area Air: Become a 1-800-EXHAUST Clean Air Advocate
Have you ever been stuck in traffic behind a vehicle spewing smoke out of its tailpipe? Just when you thought traffic jams
couldn't get any worse! Although smoking vehicles make up a small percentage of the vehicles on Bay Area roads, they
contribute up to 15 times more air pollution than well-tuned vehicles. What's worse, smoking vehicle exhaust contains tiny
particles that may lodge in the lungs and contribute to asthma and other respiratory diseases. This excessive exhaust
reminds us of another reason to love City CarShare's tuned vehicles, which are selected for low impact—and the members who
share them.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District's 1-800-EXHAUST Program allows Bay Area residents to protect air quality and
respiratory health by making anonymous smoking vehicle reports. To make a report, just take down the license plate, date,
time, and location of your smoking vehicle sighting. Reports can be made at
www.1800exhaust.org, by calling 1-800-EXHAUST, or emailing
exhaust@baaqmd.gov. Once the Air District receives your report, they will send the
vehicle owner a warning letter with information on assistance programs that can help them repair or retire their polluting
vehicle.
In the American Lung Association's 2010 State of the Air Report, San Francisco and Alameda Counties were graded a "D" for
particle pollution. By keeping your eyes peeled, you can aid efforts to take smoking vehicles off the road and get us back on
track for an "A" report. For updates, follow the program on Twitter and Facebook.

Driving Tip: Find an Empty Gas Tank? Avoid Fees and Let us Know
One of the many perks of being a City CarShare member is not worrying about gas prices. With 1/3 of our fleet consisting of
hybrid vehicles, and all of our cars rated among the most fuel and emissions efficient for their class, our vehicles use the
least amount of gas possible. However, they occasionally need to be re-fueled. As a self-serve operation, this is where we
rely on you, our members. One of our most important rules of sharing etiquette is to always return your car with at least a
half-tank of gas.
While we hate to do it, we charge a fee to members who return a car with less than half a tank of gas. These fees are
designed to remind and reinforce the idea that we are all sharing together and that inconveniencing each other is not in the
spirit of sharing.
If you come across a vehicle with less than half a tank of gas, report it by e-mailing Member Services or calling us at
415-995-8588. We'll need your name, Member ID number, date, time, and the car's VIN number, so we can investigate and assign
a fee to those committing the car sharing faux pas. Once you've notified us, please fill the tank using the gas card and your
Gas Card Driver ID so the next member doesn't get stranded--or contact us about you not leaving enough gas. Your fellow
members - and our staff - will truly appreciate it.
Tip: Opt in for our automatic text message reservation confirmations, so you always have your Gas Card Driver ID handy if you
drain the tank. (Log in and go
to the Account tab. Enter your 10-digit cell phone number followed by @ and your carrier's domain
in the text message address box (ex. 4159958588@txt.att.net)

California State Assembly Unanimously Boosts Shared Access to Vehicles
Last month, we announced our support of AB 1871 to make personal vehicle sharing possible in California. Personal vehicle
sharing is a system in which individual owners of vehicles can make their cars available to others on an hourly basis in
exchange for money. This bill makes clear that personal vehicle sharing does not constitute a commercial use of the vehicle.
The bill also makes sure that the individual car owner is not held liable for losses that arise when the vehicle is used for
personal vehicle sharing.
Assemblymember David Jones authored the bill, which just passed with strong (unanimous!) bipartisan support. Next, it will
move to the Senate for consideration. Joining City CarShare in support of AB 1871 were other environmental groups such as
the Environmental Defense Fund, Sierra Club of California, American Planning Association of California and Community Action
to Fight Asthma. Spride, Gettaround, and RelayRides also support the bill.
Stay tuned for more policy and program updates on ways personal vehicle sharing can bring car sharing to new communities
(like suburbs) and give people a reason to get rid of their second car. This program can also reduce the need for purchasing
a new car by making car sharing more accessible and affordable.
