Be among the first to try TransLink® on Muni!

City CarShare members receive a complimentary TransLink card and a chance to win great prizes!

Do you remember when cars were cars and all other forms of transit was considered alternative? When City CarShare launched car sharing in the Bay Area in 2001, our transit options shifted and even, dare we say, evolved. After all, car sharing introduced independently operated vehicles into our alternative transit network while decreasing car ownership and usage. As one of your alternative transit providers, we are pleased to announce our partnership with TransLink.

TransLink is a reloadable smart card fare payment system that allows you to travel seamlessly between transit agencies throughout the Bay Area. TransLink is adding Muni to its system, which will improve the way Muni riders connect to other transit systems such as AC Transit and Golden Gate Transit and Ferry. Soon BART and Caltrain will come aboard as well.

Car sharing is not designed to be cost-effective for daily commuting and we are happy many of you take Muni to commute. TransLink is inviting you to be among the first to participate in their Muni trial program. Trial participants receive a complimentary card (a savings of $5) that can be loaded with either e-cash or an Adult Muni FastPass®. All Muni asks is that you commit to using your TransLink card on Muni on a regular basis and give TransLink feedback on your experience.

Through our partnership with TransLink, CCS members get an exclusive offer. CCS members participating in the trial program will be entered in a drawing to win fun prizes such as an iPod, or iTunes and Starbucks gift cards.

Just enter CCS in the promotion field on the online sign up form. Click here to become a Muni TransLink trial participant now!

We're in Your 'Hood too

Our cars are not the only ones in your neighborhood. This year, we are sharing the word about our mission and service at roughly one hundred events around the Bay Area. Our grassroots style connects us to communities, which is one of the reasons we are one of the most successful car sharing organizations in the country. Supporting neighborhood events allows us to not only grow memberships and advocate for car sharing, but also enables us to support neighborhood organizations and local merchants through our presence and vendor fees.

In San Francisco this summer, we have participated in a wide range of events including the Cherry Blossom Festival, Juneteenth, Haight Street Fair and SF Pride (to view parade and booth pictures from SF Pride, click here). In the East Bay we'll share the word even more at Oakland Lakefest (Aug 1st & 2nd,), Art & Soul (Aug 15th & 16th) and the Solano Stroll (Sept 13th). To announce our two new Alameda pods, we took part in the Alameda Earth Day, the Alameda Mother's Day Spring Show and are looking forward to the Alameda Art & Wine Festival (July 25th & 26th).

Fun in the Sun! Sharing the Word at Upcoming Events

  • Sunday Streets: July 19th (10 am—2 pm)

Join Our Street Team

We are excited to make our debut at Sunday Streets on July 19th. Grab your bike and help us spread the word on car sharing along the Mission route.

We are also looking for a crew of volunteers to hang posters and distribute materials in targeted Bay Area neighborhoods. If you're interested in joining us for Sunday Streets, or for a few hours between 10 am and 2 pm any weekday during July, drop an email to nlee@citycarshare.org with your availability.

Challenge Yourself - SF AIDS Seismic Challenge

City CarShare is constantly promoting, supporting and touting local businesses and organizations. As a community-based nonprofit bent on improving the quality of life in the Bay Area, we love finding opportunities to make a difference. The Seismic Challenge is a two-day, 200-mile cycling fundraiser to support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation in preventing new HIV infections. Be a part of the Seismic Challenge as it follows 4 major fault lines in a scenic loop around San Francisco Bay. The magnitude of this event will be measured by the hundreds of thousands of dollars that cyclists will raise to fight HIV.

The new route and the new challenge will show you parts of the Bay Area that you've probably never cycled before. It covers all the diverse landscapes that the region has to offer including redwood groves, bay vistas and the rolling hills of wine country. The ride is limited to 150 cyclists so register today for the experience of a lifetime!

As a special offer to City CarShare members, you can get $40 off the registration fee of $95 if you sign up by July 20. Just enter the promo code, city (case sensitive), during registration to receive the special discount.

Please visit www.seismicchallenge.org to register or to RSVP for an information meeting.
