Seen anything new from City CarShare lately?

If you are reading this, you have probably noticed by now that we have a new brand! Our new look and feel better reflects our roots as a forward-thinking nonprofit carsharing organization; and the vision we share with you for a better Bay Area. Check us out on our new website and stay tuned for more exciting news as 2012 unfolds, like a new mobile app and other ways we will enhance your user experience.

As we reflect on the new year, we are proud to call the Bay Area our home: we live here, we grew up here, and our kids go to school here. Our organization was started by Bay Area transportation activists. When we look out our windows, we imagine clearer skies, quieter streets, calmer commutes, and wider open spaces that are the lovely and immediate results of a city with fewer cars on the road. Defending and improving the quality of life in the Bay Area, our own quality of life, is what fuels our mission. And that’s something no corporate transplant can ever say.

We thank you all for the last ten years of making this vision a reality and we look forward to the next ten, as we all continue to make the Bay Area an even better place to live, work, play, and breathe.

City CarShare continues to lead the way in providing the Bay Area the greenest carsharing around. Not only do we feature cars that are at the top of their class for fuel efficiency, but this year we are going to Get Electric in a big way!

This month we will introduce 100% Electric Vehicles (EVs) into our fleet, in addition to the Plug-In Hybrids we already have on both sides of the Bay. Stay tuned for more information as we expand our EV program significantly in the coming months to meet one of our major goals:

“Run half of our cars on alternative fuel by 2015″

This goal is a key part of achieving our mission to make the Bay Area a more livable place.

As a member, you get to drive our Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles, and reduce–even eliminate–gas usage and fuel emissions. With the addition of more Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), you can soon flash your eco-edge in a sleek Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, or Mitsubishi i. Plus you get access to exciting new and innovative technology coming out of the car industry while skipping those pesky car payments.

Our greener rides are supported by forward thinking partners– municipalities, institutions, and like-minded parking lot owners– who are sharing the investment and the logistics of bringing EV technology to the Bay Area. Together we are advancing a different kind of driving that makes sense for you, our members, and the Bay Area environment.

The new year is not only time to Get Mobilized with City CarShare; it is time to Get Electric too. So stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter pages for updates on when our new EVs will be available in the next few weeks.

3 Ways to Go Greener in 2012! back to top

We are sharing our Top 3 Tips for making your City CarShare membership even more green, starting today!

1. ELECTRIFY! Reserve one of our Plug-in Prii or brand-new Electric Vehicles (read about them here) whenever they are available.

2. GO PAPERLESS. Sign up for e-mail ONLY statements and invoices in 2012 and be an encouraging role model for friends, family, and other members. Set your paper-free preference by going to the Settings tab in the Account section and Edit your Bill Preference

3. TEXT ALERTS. Texting while driving? No, no, no. Signing up for CCS text alerts before you drive? Smart move. Save paper by getting your reservation confirmation sent directly to your phone instead of your printer. You’ll also have crucial info like reservation date, time, location, and your Gas Card Driver ID number on your phone, while on the go. Just log in and go to the Settings tab in the Account section and click Edit to opt-in.
