At 10 Years Young, Getting Older Never Felt so Good
Ten years ago, with just 40 test drivers and a few sassy green VW bugs, City CarShare launched car sharing in San
Francisco with the goal to make the Bay Area a better place to live. Our vision was to have fewer cars, less congestion,
cleaner air, lower cost of mobility and healthier people. It still is. And now, a decade later, we have thousands of
members sharing hundreds of fuel-efficient cars in the Bay Area.
During our 10th anniversary year we will celebrate what CCS and our members have accomplished, while championing new
innovations yet to come. So stay tuned for exclusive member activities throughout 2011!
Want a sneak peak at what we have planned? We'll be introducing even more ways to be smart about mobility - promotions,
and incentives for you to cut your transportation bill, and get a greener "electric" ride.
To start, we've got something fun planned just for our members. We will be hiding a bunch of fun and fabulous prizes in
our cars throughout the year. Each month for 10 months, starting next month, our stealthy City CarShare staffers will
stash 10 secret prize certificates in the glove compartment of 10 different vehicles throughout our fleet. Eligible
members who find a certificate will receive an awesome prize package sponsored by local businesses and organizations.
We'll share details in these e-newsletters, e-mails, our
log-in page
and our Facebook wall. And coming up this
Fall, we're hosting a 10th Anniversary Gala! To celebrate 10 years of Bay Area car sharing, we'll be sending out
invitations
to fun-filled events where we will rejoice in our goals, reveal some new innovations, and create some lasting memories
to fuel the next 10 years of Sharing the Love.
And by the way, if you know a local business, restaurant, arts organization or favorite neighborhood hangout that you'd like to
see represented in our 'monthly prize packages', just let us know. If chosen, there may be something sweet in it for you
as well. For more details on this unique opportunity, please email marketing@citycarshare.org.

Driving Tip: Driving in the Dark
Now that it gets darker earlier and the rainy season is underway, be sure to slow down and be extra careful of your
surroundings. Always be sure to give plenty of space in front of and around you. Give yourself time to react,
especially at dusk. Don't forget to watch out for pedestrians and cyclists, who are less visible in the dark. Thanks for
sharing safely!

Wrapping up the Holidays with Sports Basement
On the cold, wintery evening of December 9, the warm staff of Sports Basement - Bryant Street
hosted City CarShare members with a bottomless cooler of
drinks, a festive spread of delicious snacks both savory and sweet, and a cool 15% discount on any purchase. We were
stoked to meet the nearly 50 members and their guests who stopped by to grab a drink, share a laugh, and show us the fun
and functional loot they were planning to purchase. For every purchase made during the event, Sports Basement donated 5%
of proceeds back to City CarShare, netting us a sweet donation of $316 that we can't wait to put towards a new ski
rack and our CommunityShare programs!
Also, a hearty congratulations (and one secret jealous glare) to our lucky raffle winners! Lee A. started the New Year
with $50 in driving credits just for signing in, and Julie B. brought her lucky-charm buddy to the sign-in table and
snagged a snazzy $20 gift certificate!
If you couldn't make it to our 2010 holiday party, you don't have to wait a whole year to score big at Sports Basement.
Enjoy 10% off of any Sports Basement purchase all year round just for flashing your fob!

Love your Fob? Love Your Job!
Part of the unspoken welcoming ritual for City CarShare members is the first time a total stranger approaches you to
ask, "so ... how exactly does that work?" We've had it happen at gas stations, in the parking lot at Costco ("umm ...
I'll be happy to answer that as soon as I load in this ten-gallon drum of salsa!"), during every EFT (that's Extended
Freedom Trip for those in the know) out of the Bay Area, and even from neighborhood kids on bikes. While getting the
perfect spiel down can take practice, we love hearing stories from our vivacious members who truly embody the spirit of
"sharing the love."
Besides saving money over the costs of car ownership, you help build a more sustainable Bay Area by spreading the word
that there is a smarter way to live - by talking to friends, telling your boss about us (we have hundreds of businesses
as members) and even when you drive a CCS vehicle.
If you relish the role of promoting a more responsible, lower cost form of car sharing, consider volunteering with us -
or even joining our staff (look for job openings
here.) Pictured to the right is Joan, one of our most awesome long-term volunteers.
City CarShare is always on the
lookout for people who want to make a difference in our community. If this sounds like you or someone you know,
join us in keeping the most green and friendly car-share organization growing and thriving.
Thanks for Sharing!
