Congratulations Ashland, Oregon and Burlington, Vermont!
With the official launch of CarShare Vermont in Burlington and upcoming launch of Ashland Carshare
in Oregon, City CarShare welcomes new local car share providers from the West and
the East. CarShare Vermont was launched on December 15 by Annie Bourdon with the help of her
many friends and supporters. Annie is not only a current City CarShare board member, but
also one of our first employees. Her talent and dedication during our early years were
critical to our success. With Annie at the helm of CarShare Vermont, we know locals will be
great at sharing, just like you. And if you take a trip to Vermont, City CarShare members
can roam with Vermont CarShare.
Ashland is famous for its Shakespeare Festival and will soon have another organization to be
proud of. We extend our congratulations to Becky Brown and her volunteer team for the recent
acquisition of their first Prius hybrid at Ashland Carshare. This beautiful area in Southern
Oregon is just south of Medford and north of the Lake Shasta area. City CarShare is very
pleased to have helped Ashland obtain its first vehicle and is currently setting up another
roaming program for our members.
It is a pleasure to see local car share organizations grow and thrive as they invest in their
communities to create healthier, car-less options for residents and businesses. As the first
nonprofit car share provider in the country, we are indeed proud supporters. Don't forget
that as a CCS member, you can be a roaming member of over 10 other car sharing
organizations. Want to find out more? Click here

Story Board on SFGate
Last November, member and writer Eve H. offered to write about her experiences using City
CarShare to get around while saving money and reducing her carbon footprint. Pleased to
serve as Eve's muse, we happily set up a blog in SF Gate's Green section. Eve got started
right away and so far she's posted eight fun stories. To check them out and post your
comments, click here.
As stories get posted, CCS members can enjoy being connected in ways beyond the act of sharing
hundreds of cars. If you'd like to join Eve and post your own stories, let us know at marketing@citycarshare.org.

Driving tip: Share our bags, save a tree
Have you ever gotten to the grocery store and realized that you forgot to bring your shopping
bag? Last year, City CarShare launched an innovative program for the car share industry by
placing reusable, shared grocery bags in our cars so you can get to the store already prepped
to say "neither" (with a proud smile) to paper or plastic.
We believe in sharing, so we ask you to return the bags to any of our cars at your
convenience. If you forget, it's okay… we will be restocking our bags periodically so
no one will miss out on the fun of reducing the need for paper and plastic bags.

Member Highlight: Susan
We love getting fan mail and wanted to share this keen insight about one of the benefits of our service.
Thanks Susan, for Sharing the Love!
Susan writes:
Hello! Just a quick note to let you know how much I value [City] CarShare. I wanted
to let you know of one benefit that people might not think about — which is that once I
decided to give up having a car, it opened up a lot of new possibilities about where in
the city I could live. Parking is such a hassle in my current neighborhood, Russian Hill,
that I really couldn't afford to live here with a car (it's tremendously hard to find
street parking, and paying for a spot could cost upwards of $400 a month.) But with
[City] CarShare, I suddenly realized that I could consider Russian Hill after all because
I wouldn't actually need a car. A whole new neighborhood opened up for me, and I found a
great, convenient apartment. I try to walk or take public transit everywhere, but when I
need a car, City CarShare is a perfect solution. It makes this neighborhood super
convenient.
So just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate being a member. I truly don't think
I could live in this wonderful apartment without you.... -- Susan, member since March
Hint: Mention this benefit when encouraging your friends to join during our High Five Referral contest.
Thanks for sharing!
