A Great 2008: New Programs for More People
It's been a whirlwind of a year as we proudly rolled out two programs that extend car sharing
to more people than ever before. Thanks to our partnership with the Bay Area Wilderness
Training (BAWT) organization, two new "BAWTmobile" minivans were introduced this year for
everyone to share. Together, CCS and BAWT support fun field trips for youth while meeting
your occasional needs for passenger vans. Also this year, in partnership with the City of
Berkeley and the Berkeley Commission on Disabilities, CCS introduced the nation's first
wheelchair accessible passenger van. The AccessMobile - also available to everyone to share - is
especially designed to carry up to two wheelchairs plus passengers. These programs, as well
as our low-income, student and nonprofit plans, bring car sharing to new heights through
innovation and community-based partnerships. And we do it while providing the lowest rates
in town. If you know of a worthy local organization that will benefit from a partnership
with City CarShare, let us know. Stay tuned for more programs in 2009!

A Special Thanks to our Volunteers
Every day City CarShare's dedicated staff works hard to provide you with an effortless car
sharing experience. But you may not be aware of a constant stream of support fueled by the
big hearts of City CarShare's volunteers. From those who are known as regulars around the
office like Joan or Silvia; to the occasional envelope stuffers like Martin or Victoria; to our
event volunteers, both frequent and fluttery; City CarShare's engine runs smoother thanks to
these trusty workers. From all of us at City CarShare, we extend a special thanks to our
beloved volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please let us know at
volunteers@citycarshare.org.

Driving Tip- Extending Your Drive
Oh no! You just looked at the clock and the car needs to be back in its pod in an hour. Not
enough time to cram in all of your holiday shopping and errands? Here are some useful tips to
make your trips stress free.
When making your reservation give yourself a little buffer time. With an
hourly rate of $5 and a system that lets you reserve a car in 15-minute increments, those
15 extra minutes cost just $1.25. This keeps you from being rushed for time at the end of
your reservation.
Opt in for our reservation confirmation text alerts. You'll get a confirmation sent
to your cell phone each time you reserve a car. We'll include your reservation date,
time, location and your Gas Card Driver ID number. (To opt-in for text alerts
log in and go to the
Preferences page in the Account Info section. Enter your 10-digit cell phone number
followed by @ and your carrier's domain in the text message confirmation box (ex.
4159958588@txt.att.net). We have a reference guide to help you get started.)
If your reservation is already in progress, use the automated system to extend
your reservation. Just call 877-363-0710 or go to citycarshare.org/m with your wireless
web enabled cell phone to give yourself more time. (If you are not able to extend your
reservation and another member has already reserved your car, please call the emergency
line so we can notify the next member you're running late.)

Giving to Goodwill
Traditionally December marks the month of giving. This year we've got another way for you
to give back with our new Goodwill Industries partnership. (Goodwill Industries of San
Francisco, San Mateo and Marin Counties & Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay).
Our partnership provides you with a great way to get your new or gently used items - like
clothing, appliances and furniture into the hands of someone who needs them. If you use a
City CarShare vehicle to donate to Goodwill, we'll give you $10 in driving credits when
you email or mail a copy of your receipt to City CarShare Marketing
(marketing@citycarshare.org or 1182 Market Street #300, San Francisco CA 94102).
Goodwill Industries is a nonprofit agency dedicated to creating solutions to poverty through
workforce creation and environmental stewardship. With retail stores (over 40 in the Bay
Area), an online store, and an extensive reuse and recycling operation, they transform lives
and communities.

Christmas Tree Hauling Tips
If you're using City CarShare to pick up or drop off a Christmas tree, please follow these
instructions, listed in order of preference. This will prevent sticky sap, scratches and pine
needles on and in the cars:
Try to use a pick-up truck — no need to worry about messing up any interiors
No truck? Make sure you wrap the tree so you don't mess up the interior of the cars
with sticky sap and needles. To carry the tree on top of the car, place a blanket on the
roof and then fasten the tree on top of the blanket with ropes.
For information on places to drop off the trees or better yet, tree pick up services:
San Francisco: Place trees on curbs on your pick up day from December 31 to January 11. Please remove all tinsel decorations, stands and lights.

Another Great Year of Giving Back
As a local nonprofit, we're lucky to call the Bay Area home. Over the past seven years and
counting, our members, friends and supporters have been key to our success as a socially
responsible community-based car share provider. While we tout our positive environmental impact
through our unique business model that provides the lowest prices in the industry, great
insurance and convenience, it is our community roots that truly make us one of the most
thriving car sharing organizations in North America.
We know how important it is to invest back into our community and we do it though our service
(100% of every dollar earned goes back into the community), our advocacy for greener
transportation and better land-use, and by supporting remarkable local groups and initiatives.
Throughout 2008 we've partnered and supported many wonderful organizations. We've exchanged
driving credits for co-promotional programs, supported silent auctions and raffles, and
sponsored events. Many or our partners and supported organizations are listed below — click on
the links below to learn more.

Sports Basement Holiday Party Recap
Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Holiday Shopping Party at Sports Basement. Lots of
our members and friends showed up last Thursday to save-n-shop, enjoy refreshments, chat up
fellow members, and give back to City CarShare with each discounted purchase. Thanks to all of
your shopping, Sports Basement donated an extra $300 to put back into City CarShare services.
It was great to put fobs to faces and get a head start on our holiday shopping. Special thanks
to Sports Basement for hosting this wonderful event.
Thanks for sharing!
