Find in the Sun 2011

Find the Sun 2011 header City CarShare's 2011 summer EFT special

Local icon Mark Twain is often attributed with the famous sentiment, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." And without an archive of Twitter feeds for the literati to research, this clever quote's origins are still up in the frigid air. But we locals know one thing: whoever said it knew what the summer of 2011 feels like.

After ten years of service, we've had the honor of meeting tens of thousands of City CarShare members whose unique warmth and creative energy have become our best guess for why the foggy Bay Area remains a universal hotspot for sharp thinkers and big dreamers. This summer, we'd like to share the Bay Area's inner glow with our regional neighbors by announcing our Find the Sun 2011 special.

Whether you've been waiting for a weekend escape into Santa Cruz Boardwalk bikini weather or perhaps a bucket list item like climbing the Half Dome in Yosemite, put yourself in a smooth green ride and keep more hard-earned green in your wallet. City CarShare's Find the Sun 2011 special lets you take advantage of our affordable Extended Freedom Trip (EFT) prices with an even deeper discount.

From now through August 31, 2011, you'll earn $20 in driving credits when you use 2 or 3 EFT trips per reservation. When you make a reservation, make sure to select the number of EFTs you'd like to apply to the trip and enter FINDTHESUN11 in the promo code field.

And that's not all! You can also earn more driving credits by sharing your EFT trip with other CCS members through our RideShare system and by taking a photo of the trip. Check out our site to learn more about other ways to earn!

What are you waiting for? Book your Find the Sun 2011 EFT Trip, share your ride, and explore this great Bay Area.

Not enough EFTs left this summer? Not a problem. If you get Extended Freedom Trip coupons with your plan, you get to participate in this special!* If you need more EFTs, for this Find the Sun 2011 special, you can purchase additional Extended Freedom Trip coupons for $10 each (SharePlus members pay only $5 each) online while you are making your reservation.

*This promo is not applicable on business, nonprofit, or CommunityShare plans.

Gas Class 101

Gas Pump Image

As a savvy carshare member you pitch in for the occasional re-fueling gas duty as part of the community effort that keeps our unstaffed vehicle sharing system at full throttle. Here are some easy tips to ensure a premium pump experience:
  • Give yourself a 15-minute buffer for a potential delays and quick gas station pit stop during your reservation.
  • Aim for national gas chains when you need to refill the tank. Though we typically strive to support our local and indie businesses, smaller gas stations may not have systems set up to accept our gas cards. Avoid cash-only chains such as AM/PM, Arco and Flyers.
  • You must pay at the pump for the CCS gas card to be accepted.
  • Make sure you have the following when you gas up: the gas card (duh!) from the driver's side visor, odometer reading (mileage), CCS zip code 94102 (you'll only need this in rare cases) and your Gas Card ID number.
  • Get text message confirmations. Your Gas Card ID number is always included in your reservation confirmation and it is different from your Member ID number. If you don't have your reservation confirmation, and forget your Gas Card ID number, call our general office line.
And in case of those "WTF!?" days:
  • If the gas card is missing, call the general office line at 415.995.8588. After hours? Leave a message please.
  • If the card is not accepted at the pump on the first try, call the office right away. There is a transaction limit on the card and it can lock you out.
  • If gas card issues are going to prevent you from completing your reservation on time and you are unable to extend your reservation over the phone, call the emergency line at 415.786.7468 and we'll help you out.
  • If the card is not working, please use your own credit card to pay for the refill and be sure to keep your receipt. Send us the receipt via email, fax, or snail mail and we will credit your CCS account for the full amount. Click here to get our contact info.

When to Call the Emergency Line

Who you gonna call?

With hundreds of cars and thousands of City CarShare members on the move across the Bay Area, our Member Services team often powers through a hearty serving of "Help-I'm running late!" and "Dude, where is my Pod?" calls before they've even drained that first mug of morning mocha.

Our members are vital partners in our mission to drive smart into the next ten years. Naturally, your safety and satisfaction while you use our cars are our primary goals, especially when there are bumps-literally-in the road. With all the busy lives you lead, we understand that it can be confusing to remember when to call the emergency line and when to call the general office. So here's a handy guide to keep your sharing skills sharp.

1. Double check your reservation times before you arrive at your Pod. Remember that fobbing in early or fobbing out late will both incur a fine. Keep track of all reservation info, including your Member ID, Gas Card ID, Pod location, and reservation dates and times by opting into text notifications on your mobile device. Just log in to make a reservation, click on "Account" to access your account preferences and go to the "Settings" tab, click edit to add your mobile number to "Text Message Address" to activate this feature.

2. Do a quick walk-around of your reserved car before you fob in. If you notice any significant damage, check it against the recorded damages in the Damage Sheet located in the visor pocket. If there are new dents or dings that don't inhibit safe operation of the vehicle, you don't need to call the ER line. Just call our general office line at 415.995.8588. (If the office is closed, leave a message with your Member ID, 4-digit VIN of the car, and a brief description of the damage.)

CCS Safeman Video Image with play button Check out our informative City CarShare Safeman video to get key driving tips to be a safe CCS driver and prevent unwanted damages.

3. Any non-emergency calls such as gas tank level reports, billing inquiries, and maintenance requests should be made to our office line, Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. If you call after hours, please leave a detailed message and we'll return with answers as soon as we can.

4. If you simply need to extend or shorten your reservation, call the Reservation Line at 877.363.0710. Alternatively, you can use your smartphone via our Mobile Access site.

Pistahan logo Rollling wheels and lumpia

Chow down on a hot, crispy lumpia or cool off with a refreshingly fruity halo-halo while listening to sounds of Filipino-American artists. No, we are not sending you to the Philippines, but we are doing the next best thing. City CarShare is an official sponsor for the 18th Annual Pistahan Parade and Festival on August 13 -14 in Yerba Buena Gardens, San Francisco.

For the past 16 years, the Pistahan Parade and Festival has been celebrating the rich tapestry of Filipino cuisine, art, music, film, and dance. As the official wheels for the parade, City CarShare is proud to usher the heritage and heroes of the dynamic Filipino community in the Bay Area.

The award-winning Oaklandish "roots" logo began as part of a covert street art campaign designed to illuminate the local history and unique cultural legacy of "The Town" often typecast by negativity in the media. Last year alone, Oaklandish awarded $30,000 to trailblazing nonprofits, business leaders, artists, youth programs, educational institutes and community centers dedicated to building a stronger city through healthier, happier citizens.
