Our AccessMobile makes mobility more accessible and convenient.

Our Access Program gives everyone a way to get to where they need to go.

Our mission is to make carsharing accessible to all. As a nonprofit, every dollar we make gets invested back into our communities. City CarShare’s Access Program is just one example of what we do to invest in the Bay Area and the people we serve. We are mission-driven and committed to prioritizing community over profit.

In 2008, City CarShare partnered with the City of Berkeley to bring you the nation’s first wheelchair accessible carshare AccessMobilevehicle: the AccessMobile. The AccessMobile is a customized minivan that holds up to 2 people using mobility devices — plus a driver and 3 more passengers, depending on the size of the wheelchair(s). The minivan comes equipped with a manual rear entry pull-down ramp, wheelchair restraint system and seatbelt fasteners, and instructions. The Access Program is available to any City CarShare member who requests access to the van and equipment. Currently, the AccessMobile is located at our Milvia and Center location in Berkeley.

Our Access Program was made possible in part by a grant from The National Organization on Disability and was developed in partnership with the City of Berkeley’s Commission on Disability. We dedicated the AccessMobile to former Council Member Dona Spring (1953-2008), who championed the development of this program. She served on the Berkeley City Council from 1992 to 2008.

At City CarShare, we are always seeking ways to provide innovative and community-focused solutions to better serve the communities around us. We are working on expanding the Access program by bringing more wheelchair accessible minivans to the Bay Area. For more information, email memberservices@citycarshare.org.
